Pregame Outlook: Browns vs Texans

Tomorrow’s game vs the Texans has no real meaning as the Browns are basically out of it and the Texans were never really in it. Instead of doing a game preview I am going to give my thoughts on some issues that have been annoying me lately.

Issue 1:Phil Savage’s email

I understand that the guy who emailed Savage had been making remarks for a couple months now and Phil finally got fed up and said something about it. I understand it, but I definately do not agree with Phil about it. I used to be a huge Phil Savage fan, but over the past year I am beginning to really dislike him. Phil is on his way out and hopefully Bill Cowher is the one coming in to replace him and Romeo.

Issue 2: Defense!

When will the Browns realize they are not a 3-4 scheme team? This team doesn’t have the linebackers to play a 3-4. They need to move to the 4-3 and move now! Make Wimbley a DE, hopefully that will boost his production.

Prediction:

Browns: 28
Texans: 21

My Prediction Record: 3-6
Didn’t predict Bills game

Site Fixed

As some of you may know the site had a problem yesterday where it wasn’t working. Since the site got hacked I was not able to prepare a Pregame Outlook for tonights game. The site is back up and I changed some security so we should hopefully not have anymore problems.

Indians Breakdown: Positional Needs

Over the next few weeks we will be examining the Indians positional needs heading into the offseason. This week we will start off with starting pitchers and next week we will examine the relievers. Let’s get it started with the starting pitchers on the Major League roster…

Starting Pitchers:

Fausto Carmona
Grade: B

Clff Lee
Grade: A+

Jeremy Sowers
Grade: C

Anthony Reyes
Grade: B+

Zach Jackson
Grade: C

Now we will go onto the minors with pitchers who we believe can make an impace next year. These grades are based on the performance in the 2008 season and the protential grade is how good we believe they can become at the Major League level, which means a A+ in the minor league grade is not a A+ on their major league potential.

Aaron Laffey
Grade: C+
MLB Potential: B+

David Huff
Grade: A-
MLB Potential: A

Scott Lewis
Grade: B
MLB Potential: A-

Chuck Lofgren
Grade: F
MLB Potential: B-

Next we will evaluate the starting pitchers who we believe are a few years away. Again the grade is based on their 2008 performance and the potential is based on what we believe they can become at the Major League level, which means a A+ in the minor league grade is not a A+ on their major league potential.

Hector Rondon
Grade: B+
MLB Potential: A

Chris De Le Cruz
Grade: B+
MLB Potential: B+

Ryan Edell
Grade: C+
MLB Potential: C

Kevin Dixon
Grade: C+
MLB Potential: C+

Frank Herrmann
Grade: B-
MLB Potential: C

Carlton Smith
Grade: B+
MLB Potential: C+

Steven Wright
Grade: B
MLB Potential: C+

Ryan Morris
Grade: B+
MLB Potential: B+

Ryan Miller
Grade: B+
MLB Potential: B+

As you can see we have some great young arms that can help out in the next few years. Some of our prospects have potential to be really good, but whether or not they become as good as projected makes baseball what it is. In baseball nothing is a sure thing and that is the beauty of the game. Next week we will review the bullpen. Until then, Go Tribe!

Pregame Outlook: Browns vs Broncos

It’s Thursday and the Browns have a primetime game against the Denver Broncos. Today is the beginning of the future for the Browns as Brady Quinn gets his first start. The start comes just 5 days since the Browns loss vs the Ravens where Derek Anderson threw a game-losing interception. When Brady Quinn takes the field today it signifies the ending of Derek Anderson, who as a Brown has shown great skills, but inconsistent play.

What to watch for…

BRADY QUINN!: Brady gets his 1st start today and it will be interesting to see how the playbook will be different, if at all. I expect there to be more short passes as well as getting Heiden more involved.

Braylon Edwards: I am really interested to see how Braylon will play with a new quarterback. Will his hands magically get better than they have been all season? Honestly, I expect him to have maybe one drop, if that. Brady Quinn has more touch on his passes and Derek Anderson throws more rocket passes.

Prediction:

Browns: 28
Broncos: 17

My Prediction Record: 3-5

Quinn will have a good game putting up above average stats. The Browns defense will struggle and give up a big game to Jay Cutler, but overall the Browns will get the win.

Anderson Benched!

Derek Anderson has been benched for fan favorite Brady Quinn! It came about 8 games too late, but thankfully it did happen. Anderson has been pathetic for us this year and it is about time give our future a chance with Brady Quinn. I know it all has not been Anderson’s fault for our losing, but if your quarterback has a 50% completion percentage he sure isn’t helping the team. Quinn is going to bring hige energy to the game Thursday and make people excited for the game! GO BROWNS!

Pregame Outlook: Browns vs Ravens

I have not had time to write a preview for this game so there is only going to be a prediction posted.

Prediction:

Browns: 21
Ravens: 10

My Prediction Record: 3-4

Browns have a good game and continue to move towards figuring it out on offense. Derek Anderson has another average game, but saves his job for another week.

Postgame Outlook: Browns vs Jaguars

First off, before we get to the review it is important to announce that Joe Jurevicius has been put on injured reserve.

Now onto the review. The Browns improved to 3-4 with this win, which isn’t bad considering how bad they have played this year. Yes, I am talking about the offense and mainly Derek Anderson. Anderon has a decent game on Sunday, but I still believe we need to see Brady Quinn during this season. I realize that by benching Anderson we can be throwing the season away, but I am willing to take the risk. We need to see who our future is and even though Anderson did decent I still want to see Quinn.

Shaun Rogers is an absolute beast! He is unstoppable and by far the best player the Browns have, or at least the most intimidating. The blocked field goal was huge, but what I found more impressive is that he actually recovered it.

Jamal Lewis is proving to be very good for the Browns on offense as the only consistent skilled player we have on that side of the ball. We can expect 80 yards from him a game and although that doesn’t sound really good, the fact is he gets the tough yards. Lewis is getting it done for us, without him we would be the worst offensive team in the NFL.

Lastly, we need to give props to the whole offensive line. They did a great job all game. The Jaguars barely got any pressure on Anderson, which was huge in this close of a game.

Pregame Outlook: Browns vs Jaguars

Last week was one of the worst games all year. The score wasn’t that bad, but the Browns played so bad on offense that I thought I was watching Charlie Frye run the offense. Derek Anderson proved once again that we need a quarterback change, but throughout the week it appears we need more than that.

With the recent problems with Kellen Winslow it seems like this team is officially corrupting. Winslow has been suspended and has since appealed. Winslow opened his mouth after the game about his secret illness, which he said was a staph infection. Once Winslow opened his mouth he was suspended and since there have been public problems between him and General Manager Phil Savage.

What does this all mean? Well, I think it means Winslow will not be a Brown next season. I expect to see Martin Rucker become more active in the offense throughout the year since he is now healthy. I believe the Browns will want to see if Rucker can be a productive replacement for Winslow or will they have to try to bring somebody in.

Now what to watch for…

Braylon Edwards: It will be interesting to see how many drops he will have tomorrow. Last week I predicted he would have another big game, but he quickly proved me wrong.

Kamerion Wimbley: I saw an inside move from him last week! He is making steps towards putting pressure on the quarterback and I believe he will take another step forward against the Jaguars. Maybe even by Week 16 he will be able to get to the quarterback, but remember, one step at a time.

Prediction:

Browns: 10
Jaguars: 24

My Prediction Record: 3-3

I really want the Browns to win big tomorrow, but I don’t see it happening. Derek Anderson has lost control of this offense and I don’t see him getting it back, which means another horrible week on offense.

Note: After I posted this The Browns have agreed to rescind Kellen Winslow’s suspension, but Winlsow will still miss the game.

Cleveland Sports Update

Browns:

After Sunday’s horrible 14-11 lost, tight end Kellen Winslow made comments about his mysterious sickness as well as negative comments about GM Phil Savage. Since then he has been suspended 1 game without pay. I have mixed feelings about this. Part of me is ok with Winslow voicing how he feels and I also think it is messed up that they were hiding his staph infection. It makes you think if they have hided others in the past. The other part of me thinks this just brings negative press to the team and could have been dealed with inside the organization.

Cavs:

In less than a week the Cavs will being their quest for a championship against the Boston Celtics. Going into this season the Cavs have a very solid team, on paper that is. The Cavs still need to work on chemistry and get in sync with eachother. I feel that Mo Williams will be huge for this team and the trade to get him will make everyone better. He will force Gibson and West to play their best because playing time between those three might be hard to come by.

Indians:

Nothing new to report on the team other than that starting in November Indians content will be posted weekly.

Pregame Outlook: Browns vs Redskins

The 2-3 Cleveland Browns face off against a 4-2 Redskins team. Cleveland is coming off a BIG victory Monday Night against the New York Giants, where they played their best overall game all year.

Although the Browns played great last week and they did beat the Giants, it was hard for me to go with them for this game. The Redskins have a very solid team this year, but I think this whole game goes down to whether or not Clinton Portis plays. If he plays the Redskins become a whole different team. If he doesn’t than they will likely become a one dimentional team and the Browns then have a very good chance to win.

What to watch for….

Braylon Edwards: I expect Braylon to have another great game today. He had a great game last week and I expect him to continue the same. I am thinking 6 receptions, 110 yards, 2 touchdowns.

Injuries: Both teams have a lot of injured players. Whichever team has more of their hurt players active for this game is likely to win. The key for both teams is to not suffer anymore injuries.

Prediction:

Browns: 27
Redskins: 21

My Prediction Record: 3-2

I believe this game is going to be a battle and I feel the Browns will pull this one out with a solid 4th quarter and today having bad time management at the end of the game might help them!
